Acer Beni Maiko

Acer palmatum 'Beni Maiko' is a striking dwarf Maple that produces fire-red leaves in early spring. As they mature, the leaves appear lighter and more feathery in texture, the red changes to a pink with green undertones (illustrated). In Japan, Beni Maiko is considered the most brilliant of all the Maples, and won the RHS Award of Garden Merit in 2012. Eventual height after 10 years 1.2m. Spread 1.5m. 12cm pot grown plants supplied, approx 25cm tall on arrival.

Planting

Soil Type

Moist well drained Loam, Clay and Sandy Soil

Plant in fertile, well drained and moist soil. Acer shrubs prefer sunny or partial shaded areas, and can also be grown in pots. If growing in pots, make sure that the pot is large enough to support the shrub and that it also has plenty of drainage holes. Use John Innes compost if planting in pots. Acers should be watered on a regular basis, which will be even more important in hot Summers. Although its not necessary, you can prune back or cut dead wood in Spring.
