Gladioli Vista

Gladioli Vista

Vista is a light purple, large flowered variety with middles blending to white around bright violet-raspberry hearts. This unusual bi-coloured variety will provide an eye-catching focal point in your garden. Originally from Africa, the exotic Gladiol i has reclaimed its place in the British flower border and as a cut flower. Colorful blossoms alternating up tall stems and create vertical structure to the back of the garden. Gladioli prefer full sun, well drained soil and sometimes need to be staked to keep them from falling over. We've found that they often stand up nicely when planted deeply or when grown with other strong, sturdy plants eg. Dahlias that act as a trellis for them. 12-14cm corms supplied.

Planting

Plant at approx 15cm deep.

Soil Type

Well drained, light, sandy soil

Plant gladioli corms about 10-15cm deep and about 10-15cm apart, in fertile/well drained soil in spring. Planting can be done in succession from early March onwards to the end of May at fortnightly intervals. This ensures a continuity of flowers throughout the summer months. When planting in a heavy soil, place some sand underneath each corm to help with drainage.
You can water regularly as the growth begins to appear and you can dead head when flowers begin to die off, though make sure to leave foliage to grow throughout the summer. In late autumn when frosty and cold nights are likely to return, you should lift and dry the corms and store over the winter in a frost free shed/garage until ready to plant again next year.
